GREEN YOUR FREIGHT

The GreenYourFreight initiative employs an innovative method by maximizing the efficiency of vehicle utilization, decreasing the environmental impact of freight delivery, and leveraging existing transportation capabilities to achieve sustainable last-mile logistics.

The primary goal of the GreenYourFreight project is to transform last-mile delivery logistics by creating a cutting-edge platform that encourages environmentally friendly freight practices and solves transportation-related issues. The concept intends to optimize the benefits of mobility while greatly reducing the drawbacks of traditional transportation.

Goal

  • Reduce Emissions: The project aims to decrease the additional carbon footprint created during the transportation of products by optimizing the use of vehicles currently in transit for the delivery of goods from shippers.

  • Boost Efficiency: GreenYourFreight aims to reduce traffic, noise, and emissions per tonne moved by increasing the load factor of trucks, with a focus on the underutilization common in road transportation.

  • Encourage Sustainable Practices: The project intends to create a last-mile green delivery platform that will greatly aid the EU's energy, climate, and air quality goals while also helping SMEs and people by offering competitive delivery services.

Key Features

  • LIFE GYF platform: The LIFE GYF Platform connects User Type 1 (carriers) with User Type 2 (shippers) by using vehicles already en route for package delivery. With this innovative method, the demand for extra freight vehicles is minimized and the carbon impact of last-mile delivery is decreased.

  • Ad-Hoc Delivery Model: The initiative enables near-zero carbon footprint deliveries by using vehicles already en route or with prescheduled trips. This provides a faster and more affordable option for freight delivery.

  • Financial Incentives: A competitive reward scheme will incentivize carriers and shippers to hop-on-board the GYF platform and capitalize on increased service value while protecting the local environment.

IMPACT

An encouraging trend toward sustainable and effective freight transportation methods is indicated by the GreenYourFreight project's implementation, which has produced quantifiable and concrete environmental, socioeconomic, and community-based advantages.

GHG reduction

Significant reductions in a range of pollutants (carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), volatile organic compounds (VOC), and sulfur dioxide (SO2)) during the Real-Life Demonstration stages (RLD1 and RLD2).

Air Quality

The anticipated decrease in emissions, particularly in the urban areas that the project will service, points to a significant improvement in air quality. During the project's lifespan, an estimated 8 million people of the project cities are projected to benefit from better air quality; an even higher population—9.5 million city residents—are predicted to experience improved air quality.

Efficiency Enhancements

The load factor of specific trucks of the project’s consortium partners DELATOLAS and CODOGNOTTO will be significantly higher, i.e., 25.8% and 22%, respectively. The efficiency improvements in freight transportation to be brought about by the project's implementation are highlighted by this rise.

Socioeconomic contributions

According to the project’s team economic forecasts, there will be noteworthy contributions to society. For example, the carriers’ group is predicted to earn €4.748.480 on an annual base. The project's socio-economic advantages are further highlighted by the generation of man-days in existing jobs and the development of new job positions.

Raising Awareness and Increase engagement

Aiming for thousands of entities to be informed and several thousand vehicle users to engage with the mobile app, the project will effectively reach and engage a considerable audience.

Brainstorming Workshop – Phase A

1st Brainstorming workshop: MILITOS Consulting S.A. organized and implemented a workshop in February 2024 to dive more into the prospects as well as challenges of last-mile logistics, building on the enthusiasm created by the kick-off meeting. The workshop encouraged cooperation between consortium partners, industry specialists, SME owners, and transport professionals, who cumulatively offered insightful information. The participants identified the green aspect as the key characteristic that would distinguish the GYF service among other similar services.

Expansion and Reach

Post-project projections indicate that the project's influence will be significantly amplified, with increased participation from freight distributors, increased use of the GYF mobile applications, and improved service utilization across regions.

Facts and Figures

TECHNOLOGICAL SOLUTIONS

Through a variety of technical innovations, the Green Your Freight project pioneers a state-of-the-art, scalable freight logistics platform. The project uses an efficient GYF v.1.0 database and APIs to support the sustainability of last-mile services and reduce their environmental effect. This allows for easy administration and retrieval of data. Real-time monitoring and seamless data flow are ensured by middleware components.

Web and mobile app user interfaces make carriers and shippers more accessible, and platform flexibility is increased by ongoing feature updates.

System efficiency is enhanced using many programming languages and frameworks, optimization techniques, and open-source standards.

The platform will be able to handle heavy daily loads, with simplified user interactions, paving the way for commercial-scale integration.
