Expanding Intermodal Routes from Turkey to Europe (and back)

As part of Codognotto’s strategic expansion of our intermodal logistics portfolio, we are now equipped to provide both short-sea and rail solutions for transporting goods to and from Turkey.

Our short-sea package features three departure and arrival points in Italy (Trieste, Bari and Venice), connecting to multiple Turkish ports in Istanbul, Izmir, and Mersin, with an optional stop at the port of Patras.

The rail solution offers a direct connection with five departures per week from Vienna to the Halkali terminal, Turkey’s premier international freight terminal. This route boasts a transit time of just four days, striking an excellent balance between speed and cost-efficiency.

This network expansion opens up more opportunities for rail connections, not only to Italy and Austria but also to major European economic hubs such as Poland, Germany, and France. Additionally, via rail and short-sea routes, we can connect to the UK through the Rotterdam port.

Given Turkey’s role as a vital freight hub on the Southern Silk Road, enhancing intermodal routes to and from Turkey is key to facilitating faster trade routes between the two continents, offering an excellent alternative to connect Europe and Asia.
